What Can You Do as a Side Hustle?

For those who have no experience but want to earn, there are a few side hustle options that may be able to help you. Find something that works for you.

#1: Complete Jobs Around Your Neighborhood

People often need help with tasks around their home, like getting their flowerbeds cleaned out or painting a porch. They cannot or do not have the time to do this on their own, so they use sites like TaskRabbit to help them.

You can sign up to be a Tasker. You can help people move, run errands for them, provide office administration, and even get paid to pet sit using the site. You can set up a profile on the site without any cost (just download the app to get started.) If you can do any of the tasks people in your area need, you could earn a decent wage.

#2: Do Some Admin Work

Remember that job training we mentioned early? Here is a good example of how that can be applied to the work you do at home. Websites like Upwork help people who need work done to find the people that need it. You do not need experience to get started either.

With this site, you can find a wide range of jobs that may be right for you, depending on your experience and skill. For example, you could help with data entry if you have some basic computer skills. If you are a good writer, you may be able to help with the creation of a children’s book. There are a lot of high-tech jobs here that you may not have the skills for – yet. Check out some of the work that needs to be completed. Best of all, you can often work when and how much you want.

#3: Help Watch Other Kids

If you have children that you are caring for in your home now, why not add a few more? Care.com is a great way to do this, though you can advertise locally and on social media that you offer childcare services in your home.

Before you dive too far into this, check into your city’s local rules about how many children you can watch in your home at one time without needing a business license. Once you get your feet wet in this field, you can then work to get your own childcare license and start providing these services to parents who need affordable, accessible childcare. You don’t have to use the internet either, you can talk to friends and family about this service.

#4: Transcribe for People and Businesses

Today, the internet is filled with videos, but not everyone can watch and hear videos. Some need those videos or even podcasts and other audio recordings transcribed. If you can listen to the video and type out what is being said on them, you could be earning a wage from home. That sounds easy, right?

It can be a bit of a challenge to learn at first, and you may need to purchase some equipment to do so well. However, there are companies that are hiring, and they really want to help you to be successful. Scribie is one example of a company like this. Take a closer look at what they do and find out if this or a similar type of job could be right for you.

#5: Start Selling Online

Do you have a keen eye for designer handbags? Do you love to thrift or craft? If that is the case, you may be able to take what you love to do and turn it into fabulous sales and income for yourself. There are numerous ways you can do this. Here are a few examples:

  • Make stuff and sell it on your own Facebook or other business pages. You don’t even need to invest in a website. You can sell in social media groups or just by getting the word out. If you love to craft, this is a great way to make an income from it.
  • Shop, buy items that are priced low, and then flip them for a profit. You can sell on sites like Facebook Marketplace and eBay. You’ll need to be able to research a bit to know what you can earn from each item.

Check out other sites, too, like Etsy.com, all of which can provide you with ways to earn from what you own or make.

#6: Deliver to People

If you have a vehicle that can allow you to get around the town, you could help people get their goods picked up and delivered to their homes or business. Uber Eats, Door Dash, and similar companies allow you to work when and how you want to do so.

You can earn as much as you want depending on the availability of work in your area. You could be delivering lunch to someone’s business office or picking up a prescription for someone that’s unable to leave home to get it. Download these apps and check them out to find out how they can work in your area.

#7: Go Shopping for Others

Here’s one option that could be perfect for anyone that loves to shop – especially using someone else’s money! Turn to local retailers in your area, such as grocery stores and other large organizations near your home.

Find out if they hire people to deliver to their customers. There are also companies like Instacart and Shipt that provide these services to people as well. The amount you earn is really dependent on where you live and the demand in your area.

Finding a way to build the best careers you can from home while being there for your kids isn’t easy to do. Yet, there are often steps you can take to help you to make it a success. Be creative. Find out what types of jobs are available in your area that fit your skills, and be sure to reach out to Goodwill for some extra support.
