Everyday that we come to work we help individuals get on track toward self-sufficiency. We do this in many ways including Goodwill’s Ruth & Hartley Barker Post-Secondary Scholarship which supports educational dreams for Goodwill program participants and ecademie students.

One of our current scholarship recipients, Mary Mulryan, is aspiring to help others through her education.

“My goal is to be able to buy and/or build housing developments for single parents, females and minorities who are interested in completing a four-year degree. This scholarship will help me to pursue my vision as well as my education,” said Mulryan.

“… Being a single parent with a low income, I have experienced many difficulties and challenges. I know that as I have struggled, there are many people within the community that are going through the same struggles to provide for themselves and their families. My concern is not for only the well being of myself and my family, but also the well being of my fellow man. This is what drives me to move forward within my education and career to fulfill the vision I have …”

"… Now I’m determined not to let life circumstances get in the way of my destiny, neither financially or my own fears. Because problems always got in the way of my education, I am taking back the reins and not allowing these things to get in my way towards my destiny. Now I am a single parent with three kids of my own and I am still trying. I am determined to get an education. I earned my G.E.D. on October 25, 2005. I will be the first in my family to go to college …”

The Goodwill family is honored to support Mulryan during her quest as a Bachelor of Science and Design degree candidate.
